Construction Health and Safety
The Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974 is an act to make further provision for securing the health, safety and welfare of persons at work, for protecting others against risks to health or safety in connection with the activities of persons at work, for controlling the keeping and use and preventing the unlawful acquisition, possession and use of dangerous substances, and for controlling certain emissions into the atmosphere; to make further provision with respect to the employment medical advisory service; to amend the law relating to building regulations, and the Building (Scotland) Act 1959; and for connected purposes [31st July 1974]
This HASAWA 1974 is the enabling act upon which several Regulations are based, of which the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2007, Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 1995 (RIDDOR), Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002 (COSHH), Working at Height Regulations 2005 are just a few.
These Regulations cuts across all construction activities and there will always be a need for compliance from several perspectives and a breach of these regulations would have serious adverse consequences on whoever (be it the Client, Principal Contractor, Main Contractor, Contractors) is defaulting.
We understand that a lot of small and medium sized Organisations may not be able to employ full time in-house competent safety advisors to help with advise or compilation of necessary documentations required for Health and Safety compliance. Even where in house advisors are employed, there may still be a need to tap from our diversified experience.
